Let’s talk about it

Which symptoms deserve a call?

Last reviewed September 19, 2026

You do not earn extra credit for toughing out a symptom that needs attention. This is the page where I put the jokes down for a minute.

Get emergency help now

Call 911 for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, chest pressure, stroke-like symptoms, collapse, or severe confusion. Don’t wait for a portal message.

Get urgent medical assessment

Severe or persistent abdominal pain, especially toward the back; repeated vomiting or inability to keep fluids down; very little urine or significant faintness; or a swollen abdomen with inability to pass gas needs prompt assessment. Upper abdominal pain with fever or yellowing skin or eyes also needs urgent attention. If symptoms are severe or urgent care isn’t accessible, use the emergency department.

The Wegovy prescribing information includes warnings about pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, and kidney injury associated with dehydration. These symptoms don’t diagnose those conditions at home—they tell you not to guess.

Call your care team before things snowball

Persistent nausea or constipation, difficulty eating enough, worsening weakness, or new vision changes deserve contact. Sudden vision loss is an emergency. If you also use insulin or a medicine that can cause low blood sugar, ask for an individualized prevention and treatment plan; severe low blood sugar with impaired alertness needs emergency help.

Tell the team your medication, dose, last dose date, symptom timing, and whether you’re eating, drinking, and urinating. That little list is much more helpful than “I feel weird,” although “I feel weird” is still a perfectly valid reason to call.

This list isn’t exhaustive. A rapidly worsening symptom or something that feels seriously wrong deserves care even if it doesn’t match a bullet on a website.
